The UAE’s tourism sector has experienced remarkable growth in 2024, continuing its upward trajectory as the nation reaps the benefits of strategic initiatives and a focus on global competitiveness.
Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, the Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Emirates Tourism Council, attributed the sector’s success to national strategies that have strengthened the country’s position in the global tourism arena.

Record-Breaking Tourism Revenue
In 2024, the UAE’s tourism industry generated impressive revenues of approximately $12.2 billion (AED 45 billion). This represents a 3% year-on-year increase, driven by higher hotel revenues, with the country’s hotel occupancy rates reaching a remarkable 78%.
The UAE’s tourism performance continues to set benchmarks both regionally and globally, solidifying its place as one of the top travel destinations worldwide.
Expanding Hotel Sector
The hotel sector in the UAE also saw significant growth, with 16 new properties opening across the seven emirates in 2024. This expansion pushed the total number of hotels in the country to 1,251 by year-end, contributing to a 3% increase in the number of hotel rooms, which now stands at 216,966.
This growth reflects the UAE’s commitment to enhancing its hospitality infrastructure and offering exceptional experiences to international travelers.
UAE’s Strategic Vision for Tourism
Minister Bin Touq emphasized the country’s dedication to advancing its tourism efforts through innovation and collaboration with both local and international tourism bodies.
The UAE aims to elevate its tourism profile and diversify its offerings by attracting visitors from around the world. Special interest tourism is a key focus, with efforts to tap into niches like eco-tourism, adventure tourism, and cultural tourism.
The UAE’s tourism vision extends beyond mere numbers. The country is fostering the participation of Emirati talent in the tourism sector and driving investment across its tourism ecosystem.
With the goal of becoming the world’s top tourism identity by 2031, the UAE is positioning itself as a global leader in world-class travel experiences.
Surpassing Expectations: A Strong Tourism Trajectory
Hotel guest numbers in the UAE reached approximately 30.8 million in 2024, marking a 9.5% increase compared to the previous year.
This surge in hotel guests puts the country ahead of its National Tourism Strategy 2031 target, achieving 77% of its goal to attract 40 million hotel guests seven years earlier than anticipated.
“We are on track to meet and exceed the goals set by the National Tourism Strategy 2031, positioning the UAE as a premier destination for global travelers,” said Bin Touq.
As the UAE continues to evolve into a leading global tourism hub, its growth trajectory remains strong, with ongoing investment in infrastructure and innovation poised to ensure continued success in the years to come.
